The PDO thread lift procedure itself involves the implantation of fine, absorbable polydioxanone threads, similar to those which are used in medical suturing, into the subcutaneous layer of the skin using tiny needles. After the threads are inserted, you will notice an immediate lift, however, your body continues building natural collagen around their placement. Over time, the threads dissolve and your natural collagen continues building where they were placed.
PDO threads can treat various areas of the face including the cheeks, brow, jawline, and neck. Dr. Lieman will advise you if PDO thread lifting is a suitable treatment option for the area that you wish to target at your complimentary consultation.
The length of your treatment will depend on the area being targeted but typically varies from 30-45 minutes. This time includes various forms of numbing for your utmost comfort.
The procedure itself is minimally invasive and does cause micro-injuries to layers within the skin. Before beginning, Dr. Lieman applies a topical numbing cream prior to a numbing injection. Most patients remain completely comfortable during the thread insertion, after numbing.
You may experience minimal swelling and bruise for the first few days after your treatment. With that being said, there is no significant downtime and you can get back to your usual routine immediately.
The results of a PDO thread lift are both immediate and progressive, as the ultimate result depends on your body producing natural collagen around the thread. The lifting effect of PDO therapy reaches a peak at around 6 months post-treatment, after which time new collagen and elastin will have formed around the threads to tighten the skin and make the area look firmer, smoother, and more youthful. The effects last between 1-2 years.
